Rizoma tank
06/25/19 3:22 PM

I bought the gold Rizoma brake and clutch fluid tanks for my 14. The brake tank arrived first so I'm going to tackle that this week. Question, if I'm careful removing the existing tank, there shouldn't be much air entry into the brake lines. If I attach and fill the Rizoma, can I just bleed any air from the master cylinder rather than the caliper?

I dont know how old your bike is - are you due for a fluid flush per the service manual?

You could try the MC only and if you dont have a good solid brake when tested slowly in front of the house then bleed the slave too.

I flushed my brake line shortly after buying the BBW new and it was black and dirty probably with brake hose crap.

If it was me I would flush it with the 600 F Motul racing brake fluid and sleep well the night before the next ride to show the other girls your newest farkles

yes you could get away with just bleeding at the master cylinder however if the fluid is old I'd recommend bleeding the entire line. It doesn't take very long, its easy to do by yourself and doesn't take much fluid.

Probably would be ok to just bleed the MC but the calipers are a lot easier to get flowing than the MC. My thought on the matter is don't bleed unless you need to. It's a bit of wear on the threads every time you bleed and they are bound to weep just a bit of fluid for a couple weeks after you bleed. However it is the front brake and clutch MCs where the weepage is a problem because that is where the tiny spatters can land on your ram air covers or multifunction meter and leave spots. I polished one out of my meter. Feel for a wet tingle on your arms when you ride. Check under the rubber stopper retainer ring for dampness. Don't overtorque the bleeders. I live with the weepage and wipe it daily until it stops on its own.

Update- I was able to clamp off the hose to the tank and suck out the tank with a baster. lol The Rizoma took some time to get right as I used their mount which has 3 or 4 different swivel fittings. Of course by the time you situate things the way you want the screw heads are not reachable so there is some trial and error. I filled the new tank with fresh fluid after reconnecting the line. By tapping the line gently all the air came out and I have a firm brake lever. I plan to do the same with the clutch tank when it arrives. Looks great.

You should be fine as long as you don't get any air in the master cylinder.
